Considering that the average adult human body is 50-65% water, having a plan for storing water should be a critical part of every prepper’s survival strategy. The CDC recommends at least a gallon of water per person per day…and a least a 3-day supply.
You’ll need at least 1/2 gallon per day for drinking, and the rest for cooking and hygiene. So a family of 4 will need to have 12 gallons on hand.
Now before you run down to the grocery store and grab 12 1-gallon jugs of water, keep reading. That might be a fine solution for a predictable threat like a hurricane where you know when it’s coming and how long it will last. But how often do we get to pick the day and time of our challenges?
You’ll need a water storage plan that can last you much longer. This infographic will give you an excellent overview of what you need to know before making your water preps.

Very informative video! I have many of those water treatment systems. Additionally, I concur with Chris on the ‘rerstrictive’ use of the Life Straw.
My personal preference is the Katadyn Pocket Filter (Aluminum housing, ceramic filtration). I’ve never found a portable filtration system which filters more completely.
Like Chris, I also use a Berkey (Royal) filter at home with 4-“Black” filters (Better than their standard White filters). Drinking ANY other water is considerably less than desirable.
Still, while watching the video I couldn’t help thinking back to “Thad” getting water and being surprised by a snake…and then being asked by “Morgan” what kind of snake was it? “Thad” states, I don’t know, it was a snake kind of snake! LOL!
