Gaining proper Sight Alignment and Sight Picture is essential to consistent accuracy. Get your Point of Alignment (POA) to equal the Point of Impact (POI).
Achieve Sight Alignment…
By obtaining the correct relationship of the front and rear sights.
Align your eye behind the rear sights. If it’s a 2 post rear sight, you’ll align the front post horizontally & vertically level with them (centered in the notch). If you’re using a circular rear sight aperture, you’ll align the front post in the center of the circle.
Achieve Sight Picture…
By placing the target beyond the front sight post while focusing on the front sight post.
This will make your rear sights and target partially out of focus but will ensure a proper sight picture is obtained. Use a “6 o’clock hold” which dictates you “lollipop” by placing the target on the top of the front post. (The post is the “stick of the lollipop” & the target is the “candy.”) While debatable, this hold is said to be more accurate than the “Center Hold” which dictates you place the target centered beyond the front post.
Aim Small, Miss Small
Don’t aim for the general body, aim center mass. Even better, aim at the shirt button near the chest.
