BLUF: If you need your physical address to remain anonymous, use an unwitting agent to receive your mail. The agent’s address can then be used for driver’s licenses, business LLC registry, receiving bills, applying for a hunting license, etc. There are seemingly endless methods of concealing your real mailing address or throwing off the marketers. We’ll touch on some options.
The Unwitting Agent
1. Locate a business near a residential area that offers services such as accounting, advertising, bookkeeping, consulting, insurance, delivery services (flowers, grocery, office furniture), or mini-storage.
2. Enquire into their service as a normal client and nonchalantly ask if they accept and hold mail for customers.
3. If they do, accept the minimal level of service reasonable to cover for your true intent of using them as a mailbox. They do not sort mail by number but instead by name, therefore the address will appear as a standard house.
The Witting Agent
Same thing only the agent is aware of your mailing needs. They are your actual tax attorney or lawyer. You’re not in need of a high level of confidentiality and gray tactics.
A Contact – Friend or Associate
Alternatively, you could utilize an associate/friend and have mail sent to their business.
Black – Fake Address
If you want to go “black,” (stop receiving mail or throw off surveillance) use a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency or CMRA (mail drop). Don’t purchase CMRA services. Instead use a similar address as the CMRA then add an Apartment #. The CMRA will not be permitted to receive it. It will be stamped in a manner that implies you have service there while returning it to sender. [You won’t get the mail. The goal here is to make someone think they had the right address.]
Stop Marketing Mail – Disappear
You can also do a USPS change of address, check the temporary box, then forward mail to your post office, and then allow the box to expire.
