At first glance, the question may appear absurd, but there it is. New York City, the center of world capitalism, will have quite a choice in November. You can vote for any number of mayoral candidates that will be hated in short order, or you can vote for Democrat Zohran Mamdani, the Muslim communist.
Zohran is truly a piece of work. He was born in India and raised in India, Africa, and the West Side of Manhattan. The mecca for liberal thought. At 33 years old, he believes he has a comprehensive understanding of the world, especially everything wrong with the United States. He concludes that the world needs communism, but he’ll start with New York City.
He’s a Soviet-style Marxist-Leninist and makes no apologies. He wants centralized government control, government food stores that will only carry rye bread today or only chicken thighs maybe tomorrow. Sorry, no milk today.
Mamdani is not any different than Bernie or AOC. He is simply more transparent about his intentions. More honest, if you will. Bernie and AOC, or any number of Democrats, don’t have the guts to voice their plans. You would have them arrested for treason. Instead, they talk capitalism, and preserving democracy, and then they keep putting lug wrenches into the spokes of government. When things inevitably go awry, they offer socialist solutions.
Mamdani wants to freeze the rents in municipal housing, have a free bus system, tuition-free college (worth every penny you pay), and free childcare, and create a Department of Community in lieu of the police department.
But what hit me square in the head was when I read that he believes in the government seizing control over the means of production. It doesn’t get more communist than that.
Controlling the means of production means taking complete control of industry. The old management is out; the new management that works for the government goes in. In other words, those who have the skills must leave, and those who don’t take their place. Even Hitler wasn’t that stupid. He simply told BMW, Siemens, and Mercedes-Benz what to produce. By the way, that’s called fascism. Sort of like the Democrats telling the auto industry they have to make electric cars. And they accuse Republicans of being fascists.
The Democrat way: Always accuse your opposition of what you are doing.
Democrat voters will either learn from past mistakes made by earlier Democrats, or they will double down on the lessons—essentially propaganda—that the Dems have taught them about the evils of capitalism and Republicans.
New Yorkers love their Democrats, in spite of the graft, the payoffs, the illegal campaign contributions, the bribes for municipal contracts, the extortion, mail fraud, it goes on and on. Many of the die-hard Dems are boomers who still think John F. Kennedy is alive somewhere playing touch football.
To Democrats in New York and especially Massachusetts, the Democrat Party is a religion, a way to honor their woke identity as an enlightened citizenry. They have a contract with the DNC, give to us and will give to you. Almost a million people in New York City receive welfare.
I know something of what I talk about; I grew up there. Most voters, like in AOC’s district, have no idea what she stands for and possibly don’t care. All they know is that they’ve received an inner blessing by voting every now and then and have an ‘I Voted’ sticker on their chest so they can get free french fries or whatever.
New York is a tough town. They don’t impress easily. Sinatra knew that and sang a song in recognition of it. Nationally, union membership is at nearly 10%. Chicago, once a huge union town, is at 12.8%. New York is at 19.8%. In New York, achieving any kind of success necessitates a significant amount of effort.
Admittedly, Democrats do not have a monopoly on corruption, but they may have perfected it.
New York is a town where literally millions of people don’t contribute to the pie. And when their piece gets smaller and smaller, like having to share resources with over a half million people who shouldn’t be there, they blame the government. It’s a system where capitalism meets socialism and finds they are incompatible, but the Democrat Party keeps promising to make it work because it’s in their best interest to do so.
Will New York go communist? Maybe, but! It will not stand. In the aftermath, New Yorkers will be left to pick up the pieces, struggling to find a way forward amidst the chaos. If Mamdani wins, the people have chosen to go against the grain. Trust will erode, and the divides that exist will only deepen, making it harder to unify for a better future.
