Indignation: The Hidden Gear in Your Survival Mindset

Most people think fear is the enemy. It’s not. Fear is a signal. And when you learn to decode it, fear becomes fuel. But not just any fuel—the right kind of fuel.

Let me introduce you to a concept that can flip fear on its head in a fraction of a second.

It’s called indignation. And it’s one of the fastest ways to convert fear into the fuel you need to fight.

Indignation isn’t ordinary anger.

It’s the “How dare you?” anger.

It’s the exact moment your mind shifts from victim to victor. It doesn’t dwell on the act—it focuses directly on the threat. It says: “No. Not today. Not to me.”

That indignation switch is one of the most powerful mental tools you’ll ever train.

And here’s what makes it even more powerful:

Indignation isn’t limited to physical self-defense.

We’ve all had those moments where something or someone made us feel small, afraid, or caught off guard. But the truth is: most of the time, we’re not being intimidated. We’re intimidating ourselves. By how we think. By the movie in our mind where we’ve cast ourselves as the victim.

In other words, you can call on it to defend your values.

Your family.
Your boundaries.
Your business.
Your future.

This isn’t motivational fluff. This is neuroscience meets behavior meets survival.

It’s subtle. But it’s potent.

It galvanizes your emotional energy into focused action.

Which brings me to my next big idea… the concept of ‘holistic self-defense’. While many of us define self-defense as the act of protecting our property or lives, we’ve expand the definition to include protecting anything and everything that would impact your safety—emotional, psychological, health, family, and so on. It’s a cool idea, but maybe a little too touchy-feely for some.

Back to managing violence… over my 40+ years researching and teaching, I’ve concluded that the most important skill set any one of us could possess is the ability to manage a sudden fear spike.

The fear spike is responsible for two key reactions:

1) At close distances, it triggers the startle response.

2) It almost immediately starts the negative thoughts in our mind.

That’s why our whole SPEAR System® is behaviorally inspired and genetically wired. It’s built around how real people respond to real threats in real time.

Whether I was talking to a Tier 1 military operator or a mother, the common thread that linked victory was never a secret technique or a particular style. It was their relationship with fear—and more importantly, their ability to control and manage it.

Here’s where things get metaphysical!!

👉 Understanding how to manage fear improves your self-awareness.

👉 Understanding how to manage fear helps you manage time. Fear management = time management.

👉 Understanding how to manage fear and time gives you greater access to situational awareness.

Fear management improves self-awareness, situational awareness, and time management.

And that’s a skill that applies to everything—from self-defense, to leading your family, to growing your business.

Trippy, right? I told you it gets metaphysical…

Let’s go. Let’s make fear your fuel.
