How Fast Can You Bug Out? + Keys for Gaining Field Access

Evacuating in a Disaster (Bugging Out)

If a wildfire encroached your property, could you bugout in 3 minutes or less? Experts have suggested time limits for taking shelter or egressing in the event of tornadoes, active shooters, wildfires, building collapses, etc. The median max-allowed time for evacuating or bunkering down where appropriate in such Life Altering Events (LAEs) is 3 minutes.

You don’t have time to pack a bag, find an exit door, or plan an escape route when the first sign of an LAE presents itself. Make those preparations now!

》Pack a Get Home Bag. Keep it with you at all times.
》Pack a Bugout Bag. Keep it at home near the exit.
》Have 3 road routes of egress from home (or work) to at least 2 rally points or Bugout Locations (BOLs) such as a friend’s house a city over or a family member’s home in a neighboring state.
》Maintain situational awareness wherever you go. Listen to the radio. Signup for local alerts. Know the exits. Know major roads away from wherever you are. Keep your phone charged and your gas tank full.

Keys for Field Expedient Access

BLUF: When a Life Altering Event (LAE) occurs, unlikely resources will still be available in a city landscape but may require unique tools (keys) to access. Grab a few of these keys as you see relevant to your planning process.

Keep surreptitious access solutions for gas and water valves, elevator, locked cabinets, and subway access. Your kit should have basic tools in addition to task specific keys and wrenches that can be used in the urban environment. Applications are for LAE and WROL environments. All keys can be purchased by civilians.

Silcock Key (restricted water spigots). Universal handcuff key (for unlawful detainments). CH751 (valet key box, office cabinets, drawers, truck storage boxes). 84-16120 (garage and gate control boxes, telephone entry systems and keypads). FEO-K1 & 2642 (elevator key). E114 (commercial bathroom dispensers). 1284x (entry key for Ford Crown Victoria taxi/police) CH501 (truck bed toolboxes, utility storage chests).
